Allergy Shots (Immunotherapy)
In the event that lifestyle changes and medications don’t relieve your allergy symptoms or if you suffer from severe allergies, your best treatment option might be allergy shots, also known as immunotherapy. Dr. Justin Clark is a board-certified and fellowship-trained specialist who offers immunotherapy for patients of all ages.
Gentle & effective.
Allergic responses occur when the body develops an abnormal response to a harmless substance such as pollen or animal dander. Immunotherapy works this way: First, a small dose of vaccine made from the very pollen or substance to which you are allergic is gently injected. Gradually, the amount of vaccines you receive is increased. In response, the allergic response is lessened; in essence, the body becomes “less allergic” to the substances contained in the immunotherapy vaccine. Over time, patients receiving immunotherapy injections experience a significant reduction in their allergy symptoms. Although there are many safe and effective medications to treat the symptoms of allergy, they don’t have any long-term effects on the underlying condition (i.e., the symptoms will return if the patient stops taking his/her medication). Unlike medications, immunotherapy addresses the root cause of allergies and has the benefit of lasting, often permanent improvement, even after allergy shots have been discontinued.
